UPC - Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya, Signal Processing for Communications Group
Expertise
Research activities of the Signal Processing and Communications Group (SPCOM) are focused on three main lines: Personal and Mobile Communications, Ground and On-Board Satellite Processing for Digital Communications and Satellite Navigation Systems. These research activities are supported by the Spanish and Regional Government, National/International Industries and European projects.
The SPCOM Group of UPC has had a very significant involvement in previous EC funded project as early as the Third Framework Programme. It participated actively and lead several workpackages in the RACE2 TSUNAMI project, the ACTS TSUNAMI(II) and SUNBEAM projects and the IST SATURN projects. Within the Fifth Framework Programme this group co-ordinated the METRA, I-METRA and ROMANTIK projects and currently participates in the NEXWAY NoE.
Role
UPC's main contribution in this project will be algorithmic analysis to be carried out in WP3 and WP4. The initial single-user optimisation framework of WP3 will be extended to a multi-user scenario first in WP4 and then to the whole network in WP5 to fully define the SURFACE air interface. Specific requirements of evolved Beyond 3G Systems will be incorporated in the architectural development of WP6. Then link level simulations of the proposed architectures will be performed in WP7. All these activities complement UPC's analysis and simulation activities developed in METRA, I-METRA and ROMANTIK projects within the WCDMA air interface.
UPC's participation in WP9 will consist on the continuous assessment of the project and the dissemination of project results in conferences and workshops and the continuously update of the project's web page.
Moreover, UPC will act as the Project co-ordinator and as such is the only participant in WP1 Project Management.
